88 Pearsons Hall, South Hadley, Mass.
Nov. 5, 1909.Dear Mother,
Eleanor Davis, the proctor I like best, just kissed me good night. I appoligized [sic] for being bad last night. She surely is a dear.
Marion has been up all the evening.
We had high jinks at dinner to night. First place we had to wait for the ice cream in the kitchen & there must have been twenty or so girls out there. First they did a tug of war & then they got to running round in a circle & finally some one suggested dancing a Virginia reel so we started in. Then when we were eating desert [sic] Mable [sic] Wilder, a junior at our table lost her shoe off under the table & we had a funny time over that. After nearly all the people had left the room, the girls at one of the tables began raising the table. It ended by their pulling it away from the legs. So the girls had to hold the table up while the rest of us took off the dishes & some of them crawled under and put the legs back again. By the time 'twas fixed the girls
were tremblingwe were all laughing 'till we almost cried & the girls were rolling around on the floor, tumbling over each other. This P.M. I went over to Labratory [sic]and spent a period in looking up the things we found in the brook yesterday. It was very interesting work.
One of the sophomores who is earning part of her way through college is going to come round at 5-00 A.M. as soon as it begins to get cold & close our window & turn on our heat.
If it wasCharges $.05 a week I believe. If it was just for myself I would think it was foolish but I guess the girl really needs it & besides I like her very much. This is the song
onesome of our class wrote to serenade the juniors with:We are the cheerful freshmen
Andwe have come from far and near
To praise the jolly juniors
And wish them all good cheer.
The sophomores are mighty nice,
The seniors we revere;
But the juniors are the class for us
Each day they grow more dear.
So here's to 1911,
High may her banner soar!
You cannot find her equal
Than you look the whole world o'ver.
So here's to the grand old yellow,
And here's to its wearers true,
And here's to all sister classes,
And JUNIORS Here's to you!Must stop for to night as 'tis most time for hall lights to go out.
Good night & lots of love,
Marjory.Marjorie.
A.M.Bet you can't guess what dress I have on! My whole blue sailor suit. So many of the girls wear them here & they all look so comfortable that I thought I would put mine on too.
Next Tuesday is a holiday, Founder's Day, one of the big events of the college year. Cant think of any more news so good bye with lots & lots of love from your loving daughter, Marjorie.
