Oct. 23

My dear Mr. Boardman.

We are full of Pianoes - In fact have one that we have no room for - Were it otherwise I wld. make some proposition to you.

I think it a fine arrangement that Bessie takes to the Smiths. It is a fine combination & helps poor Bessie over the loss of Mamie -

My mother is still in bed & the mind of a little child - Aunt Mary as you saw her - B. B. well -

Yrs. In haste, with love

H. N. Haskell

[The campus of Monticello Seminary in Godfrey, IL is currently used by Lewis & Clark Community College. According to "Haunted Illinois," by Troy Taylor [2001], the college is haunted and the ghost is thought to be Haskell revisiting her beloved school. Among the phenomena reported are elevators running on their own; footsteps; perfume smells; strange noises and cold drafts.

1882 is my estimate of when this letter was written, because Harriet's mother died in December of 1882.]
