A Letter Written on Jan 15, 1882

My dear Mother, -

Jennie's letter was received yesterday morning. Was sorry to hear that you were not well. Hope you are feeling better to-day. We are getting along very nicely. Friday night we had quite a snow storm but it turned into rain and yesterday was so warm that all the coasting was spoiled - consequently we were much disappointed. In the afternoon George, Ida & Minnie went out and had a game of snowball. Miss Garrigus was here so I could not go. It is such a short time since I wrote that there seems to be little or nothing to write. Ida & Minnie expect Mrs White of Providence to be here the last of the week. If she is here we will probably go over to New York next Saturday. Mrs. W. will probably have some shopping to do, and while she and the girls attend to that I will call on Ev. Metcalf.

I went with Ida & Minnie to the Episcopal church this morning. We all expect to go to Westminster this evening. If I decide to go there (Westminster) regularly, I shall have to go alone as Miss Murphey has accepted a position in the choir of St John's church. Where I & M- go.

Mrs. Muldaur wants to have a little Bible class, and has commenced to ask questions on the Miracles of the Old Testament.

Our new girl seems to be quite an improvement on the one we have had. I think Auntie is feeling better than before Christmas.

O- I meant to tell you how beautifully the church was decorated with evergreens. The church is built in something of the Gothic style. It is divided by pillars into three parts. The pillars were covered with evergreens. Between the windows there were quotations, appropriate for Christmas, in red and green letters. We had a Missionary sermon, with which we were not particularly pleased. To-day is mild though somewhat cloudy. I wore my silk and black dolman.

We are all well and send love. Tell Nell and Babes I expect them to use their desks soon. Write whenever you can, and take good care of my mama -

With lots of love
Your daughter
Alice.
