Tues. eve.Dearest Bette:
It won't be long now before I'll be graduating and then school will be all over for me. Only six more weeks counting this week. We are going to start rehersing [sic] the songs we are going to sing next Wed. That is the only part that I don't like. I'll have to get time off so that I can attend some of the rehersals. [sic]
Did you know that our high school is going to go to New Haven Fri to compete in a state music contest? I didn't think that I would be able to get time off to go but Mr. Smith went to see Maurice and asked him to let me off so that I would be able to go and Maurice is giving me the time off so that I can go. Best of all I am going to drive Mr. Smiths [sic] Buick down there and back. His car is perfect a convertable [sic] coupe. I guess you have seen it. There are going to be five cars going all together. I am going to be the first one and Mr. Smith will be driving the last one. I hope we win the contest as it would be quite an honer [sic] for our high school.
You asked me where I was going canoeing. There are several places where you can hire canoes. I think that it would be nice to go canoeing on the Housatonic River.
Sunday Ed. and I came hime from New Haven in one hour and ten minutes. Marra came up and we took her home. I drove home and let him take it easy. I had quite a thrill too. I saw a big dead dog lying in the road and I thought a[t] first it was a small child but I found out different when I got closer to it. It gave me a thrill for a minute.
Last night we were riding up on the Winsted road and we had a flat tire. Then what a time we had trying to jack the car up.
No track for me this year. I just can't make it. I haven't the time to get the practice I need to get into shape to run. I will miss it but a good job makes up for that. I just couldn't do without it now. It has helped me a great deal.
Nothing new in the line of cars as yet but time will tell. I am glad you liked my picture. Please write when you can. Hope to see you soons [sic]
Love - Tom.
