A Letter Written on Dec 22, 1855

Middlebury Dec 22 /55

My dear Friend.

I have just received your letter & hasten to answer it. You can tell Miss Chapin that I do know what the regular terms are but I thought perhaps she might make some difference on account of circumstances. I was absent from the Seminary eight weeks, of the summer term and was sick nearly three so that I lost all the summer term; I know that it is contratry [sic] to the usual custom to deduct from the regular terms but I thought under these circumstances possibly they might. I do not think that Father would be willing to send me back at the rate of $100 per year. If you will communicate what I have written to Miss Chapin & let me know the result as soon as convenient I shall be very much obliged I hope it will be so that I can go back for I have been home so long doing nothing that I feel very anxious to be in school. Do you expect to come home vacation if you do & I go back perhaps we can go to-gether. I am glad you like the school so much. I know you have a good roommate; give my love to her & tell her that I do remember her. I suppose she is a dignified Senior now.

Give my love to Annie Kendall & tell her that I would write her a line but it is Saturday evening & I am expecting every minute that Mother will request me to stop.

Is Miss Hopkins at the Sem now or has she been there & left? Give my love to Hannah Noble & tell her that I have not forgotten her if I have not written to her.

In Haste
Your friend
Sophie

I expect to be in Waterbury for a week or two so I wish you would direct to me [...] care of Robert Crane M.D.
