A Letter Written on Dec 11, 1855

Middlebury Dec 11th /55

My dear Friend.

I have been thinking for a long time that I would write you although I believe you owe me a letter.

I have wanted to hear from the Sem. but have not written to any of the girls because I did not know who was there this year. I received a letter the other day from May Corst summers [?] room-mate Myra Holman in answer to one that I wrote some time ago, but she could not give me much Sem. news.

You have no idea how disappointed I was that I could not go back I have thought some of going back at the commencement of next term & have been trying to have Father write for me, but he is so busy that he has not. Now I want to ask a favor of you which I will return whenever I have an opportunity. I wish you to see Miss Chapin (or the Principle [sic] whoever she may be) & ascertain if I can go back next term if I wish to do so & upon what terms. I was taken sick at the commencement of the Summer term so that I lost the whole of it & Father thinks she would make some deduction from the usual price on that account. I know pretty well that she will not but still should like to have you ask her.

My health is now pretty good & I think I am well enough to be in school. If you will ascertain and write to me as soon as convenient I shall be very much obliged to you.

I have met Eleanor in Waterbury twice since you left; once with Mrs Ambler & once with Amonde [?] Logan.

I do not see any Bethlem [sic] people or hear any of the news; I presume you know better what is transpiring there than I do.

How do you like the school and all connected with it?

Where do you room & who with & whose section are you in?

Who has the middle sections this year. The teachers who had them last year are both gone so I feel anxious to know.

Did you get along well going on alone or did you find company on the road?

Are there a couple of girls at the Sem. by the name of Hannah Noble & Addie Johnson.

I have some things out in the pumpkin parlor I suppose & I think it would be about as easy to go back as to send for them.

I am staying home as sober as can be. I meant to go up to Bethlem [sic] and make a visit but do not know as I shall. Did you have a nice time Thanksgiving? I spent the day at home (with none but our own family) and the night at a party for a wonder, it was a very pleasant one although small.

Unless I can write better I think I had better stop. Give my Love to any one that wishes it & plenty for yourself:

Good Bye
Sophia.

Is Miss Titcomb at the Sem. this year? She was my section teacher last year & I thought very much of her.
