Middlebury July 24" /56Dear friend,
I received your letter on Wednesday & very glad was I to hear from you. I suppose you are very busy now preparing for examination. how I should like to step in anniversary morning. I have not been there at anniversary, & I think it would be very pleasant to be.
Have you decided to go back next year? I do not think
Ithat I shall although I should like to. I am teaching yet do not know how long I shall. I have had twenty six scholars, although they do not come steadily. I have not been to Bethlehem this summer & I do not hear from there any more than if I never lived there. I hear that Eleanor is teaching in Nonnewaug this summer, I think she must have four scholars as bad as mine, and it seems as if I had some as bad as can be. I suppose you are having a nicer time than if you were teaching the little dirty young one's [sic] as you used to call them. However you will have to come sit [?] one of these days, if not the little ones the large ones. Miss Hopkin's Grand Mother Mother, & sister & brother are visiting here now. I wish she would join the company.About that carpet, Mother thinks that the one you speak of may be the one. Mine was in two breadths & they were sewed together, one of the breadths was priced. If you find any thing corresponding to it, I will lash it on top of your trunk or bring it any other way I will pay you for all trouble & expense. I am very sorry to trouble you so much, I will pay you & be very much obliged to you. I intend to have a vacation of two or three weeks commencing week after next & I shall hope to see you[.]
I received a letter from Harvey the other day, he is at Grand Rapids [?] now, has been sick with fever.
I have recieved [sic] a Catalogue for which I am very thankful. I have perused it several times.
I do not suppose you can read this for the scholars are cantering round so that I can not write.
Remember me to all inquiring friends & believe me
Yours Affly
SophiaP.S. Do not forget to come & see me at vacation.
