A Letter written on Sep 29, 1899

Mansfield, Mass.
Sept. 29, 1899

Dear family,

I shall have to make it my rule to write my letters home on Saturday or Sunday, for I do not get the time on school days. There will be my last Sunday's letter waiting for you at the P.O. today, (Fri.) and you will get this brief one Sunday, if you go to meeting.

No school Wed. as we are expected to go to Medfield to the Institute. I would very much prefer to go to Providence to the Board Meeting but do not suppose it is allowable. Harvey did not come Wed. tho' we all dressed up and Mrs. Packard killed the fatted "hen". He has not written either to explain his non-appearance.

Miss Kinne is going away over Sunday, and I asked Elizabeth to stay during her absence, but she had already planned to go to Concord.

The first Rhetoricals come today. I do hope they will go off nicely. One of the girls has the piece "Mahnwood" [?] and I have been drilling her like mad on it. Some of the compos are dry as bones, but Charles Fitts' is good.

They have given me a class in water-color painting!!!! What do I know about it? I remonstrated, but to no avail. The girls can draw better than I ever could or ever shall.

School-time, so goodby.

Lovingly
Susie.
