Dear Carrie,
I have been planning to write you ever since I came home from Pelham, but you know just how many things there are to do before college opens, and since I came back I have hardly been in my room ten minutes except at night.I wanted to tell you what a lovely time I had at your house that afternoon. You didn't know how good it seemed to get some girls together again. I was alone so much of the summer that I was quite anxious to get back to college and see the girls. I missed Babe so much this summer; it isn't any fun being an only child. Virginia Cutter and Edna Cutter came up to Raymond on horseback the week before college opened. They stayed all night with me and then started out the next morning in a pouring rain to see Katherine Beane in Brentwood. They stayed over night at a farmhouse and returned home the next day Edna says she is coming up to see us some day and tell about their thrilling experiences on the way home[.] Virginia, I see by the Derry News, is teaching in Windham.
I came back to college Sept. 17, a day early in order to come with Myra Foster, as she had one exam. to take. She likes college, though she was pretty tired after the first week. It is hard getting settled and adapted to the new surroundings. We have been to church this morning in the pouring rain. I never saw so much rain to greet the Freshmen. It was pretty discouraging for them, I think. This year is going to be a very busy one for me. I have fifteen hours, and none of them are so very cinchy. I have Philosophy, Greek, Latin, English Lit. and I am beginning French. I guess I told you I was coming back to Tenney House. Helen and I are not together this year, but I am rooming with Katherine Beane, whom I have known very well since I've been in college. We have the front room on the south side of the house, where we get a grand view of Mt. Holyoke. There are seven Seniors in the house out of thirteen in all, and most of us are good friends.
Babe has been home on a short visit, the first time since she was married. I suppose Helen is getting quite excited about her wedding. It's lots of fun getting ready, isn't it? Maura and Babe had such a nice time sewing together last winter. Maura says she is going to do some sewing for me this winter - not on my trousseau, though.
I haven't had a chance to visit any of my old places since I came back. I haven't even been down to see Paradise - I was interrupted by someone, and now I will try to continue.
I am looking for a letter from Mary Davis soon. I am anxious to hear all about her library work in Albany. Do you know a Mary Jenness of Mt. Holyoke? She spent last Sunday with one of the girls in the house. She made me think of Ruth Merliam [?] a lot.
I must get ready for Vespers now. Please give Mary & Helen my love.
Yours lovingly, Elizabeth
