West Derry N.H.
July 7, 1906.
Dear Carrie, -I was sorry you could not attend the class picnic, but I did not expect to see you that day any way. However there were six from our class and two from '04's class, Elizabeth Thompson and Fisher. The representatives of our class were Annie Pettee, Marion Bradford, Miss Hunt, Cross, Chester, and myself. I think we had a more jolly time than one did last year. Although the time set for starting was eight o'clock we did not reach the grove until about twelve o'clock. We walked over to where Walter Warren lives and then we all went by boat over to the Grove. At lunch there was only one thing lacking, and probably you can imagine what that was. do [sic] you recollect anything about the first cake you made last year, well there was nothing to take its place this year. We had a very generous supply of that immortalized lemonade, but this year the ice cream and watermelon were not there to be wasted. The party broke up a little after five in the evening.
I hope by this time you are rested. I am enjoying life by occupying my time in the hayfield, which is very healthful work, even though it is certainly a strenuous life and requires long hours.
I believe Harry leaves Madison two weeks from next Thursday; we shall be very glad to see him.
Every your friend,
Lester Willis Russell.
