May 13, '06.My dear Carrie, -
We are feeling much happier this morning as the nurse feels sure Mary is over the worst of her sickness, but I will leave the rest for the others of the family to tell you more about it.
I miss Mary so about the house that I don't know what to do, and I shall be so glad when she is well.
I have not seen her since Thursday morning, not because I was not allowed to do so, but because I knew I could do her no real good, and the less people she sees I suppose the better for her.
I hope you are real well and are keeping your courage good, for I think you will soon hear good news from home, I am sure it looks brighter already. The doctor has not been [here] yet this morning, but he is expected soon. I enjoyed your nice note very much. You always do write such interesting letters.
I was interested to know that you met that Miss Crocker and I shall tell Sadie you have scraped an acquaintance with her. I had an idea she was not quite as nice as my Sadie, but she may be a good girl for all that. I think there was jealousy over Walton between them though this girl is Walton's cousin. Walton was in the hospital at Boston the last that I knew, but I have not heard from Sadie for about a month so do not know how he is getting along. My school is just as interesting as ever, and I have managed to teach every day, tho I have had an awful cold, but that is much better now. Three of my scholars have to go to Lowell for the next four weeks to learn the Catechism and be confirmed, of course I shall be sorry to have them absent so long, but shall make the best of it. Mrs. Weston says "my children" are doing splendidly on their music. I should like to have you hear them sing their pretty motion songs etc.
It is only about six weeks before we shall see you, that isn't long.
Lots of love your loving sister
Helen.
