Easter, 1894.My Dear Nell;-
Our "bright Easter skies, fair Easter skies" have turned gray and begun to weep sadly and gently, but n'importe for the sun, just as I said, did shine a while this morning and I've no doubt danced too but as Nan & I weren't up till eight I can't speak as an eye-witness.
It was duly moved and seconded to re-consider the question of my visit to Middleborough; the committee of the whole had two earnest consultations on the weighty matter and at length came to the unanimous decision that I would better depart for that much analyzed New England town Wednesday at 3.42 p.m. reaching the aforesaid place for the purpose of making my own analysis and incidentally of seeing a certain small(?) flaxen-haired maiden from Holyoke at 4.27. Will this meet the convenience of my host and hostess? You don't count. I'd just as soon inconvenience you as not! I can stay (providing I am "sufficiently urged") till the 9.38 train Friday a.m. Isn't it too bad that Nan can't come too? She's writing her own regrets, so I won't incroach [sic] on her domain any farther.
We had a postal from Edith yesterday saying it made no difference to her so long as we come some time and asking as to acquaint you with the change. I've judged from what she wrote that she couldn't go around Boston with us Tuesday. Don't you think it would be a good idea to write to Mollie asking her if she could go around Boston some with us Tuesday - show us the lions, as it were? There's a through train leaves here at 8.14 a.m. reaching B- at 9.55 and I see there's another by which you could go reaching there at 10.00. If Mollie could go around with us, we'd accomplish so much more than trying to "do" Boston by ourselves. I'd just as soon write to her, because I think she'd tell us if it wouldn't be convenient to give us her valued society. What do you think? I know nothing about getting out to Lexington, so we'll leave to you the deciding about the train out to Edith's and the letting her know so as to meet us.
I have been obeying you & all other kind friends so exactly in regards to resting &c. that I've not much to tell you except that I am getting fat again and that I sleep as I thought I had forgotten how.
Thursday eve. we went to prayer meeting and Friday to a Good Friday service at the Church of the Ascension. Yesterday we went down-town and had a funny time looking at coats and buying stockings & staring in the store-windows admiring or criticizing the decorations. This a.m. I went to the Church of the Ascension. They had a most beautiful, impressive service which I enjoyed all the more because I hadn't been in an Episcopal Church for so many weeks before. Their boy choir is super fine. One dear little fellow has a superb voice. I thought of our Bible Class of last Sunday and what we all said of Easter.
I hope and am sure you did) you enjoyed your Easter as I am mine. To-night the Sunday School of Nan's Church give a concert which we all attend. Hearing all the talk about it has made me think of other Easters when I was so interested in having the children behave during their festival. It seems a long while ago, - I think I'm getting aged!
Auf Wiedersehen
