Sunday 6.30 P.M. E.ST
May 24/36Dearest Jeanie-Meanie :-
Anthony, Marge, Billy & I drove down at 1.30 to-day and Jane had a nice dinner waiting for us. Kettle roast of beef, new 'taters, lettuce, tomato & asparagus salad. Marge (made) baked a two layer choc cake with white icing, and pecans on it, this morning, which she bro't down.
We've had a nice day, quiet, and peaceful. Anthony has slept most of the time and Marge & Billy are out calling now.
Am staying here again as I go down in A.M. to take paper off at Russells. Paper hangers are coming Tuesday. Went to Bing. on bus. Fri. at 6:30 as Bill did'nt come down. Went to the Symphony and saw two good pictures. My choice "M. Sullaven["] in "Next Time We Love". Excellent and "D. Del Rio", Warren Williams in "Widow from Monte Carlo". I think "Sullaven" is splendid & quite my favorite.
Went up to Marge's at 11.30 P.M. Am I a "roustabout"?
Sat. morning up and out with Anthony. Brokers, Bank, Charis see about corset which I will have made smaller before I come, Warners, Nina's, Betty's, Fowler's to pay bill and order paper & Malted Milk. Met Marge at noon and saw "Show Boat" unconscious for two shows. It is wonderful. Almost liked it better than the "Great Ziegfeld". "Allan Jones" is fine, such a voice! He sang in (Ziegfeld) A Pretty Girl etc., but was'nt in picture, so read some where. Irene Dunn, Chas. Winninger (Capt.) excellent, Helen Morgan, splendid, Queenie Smith, & Sam White were in original co. Paul Robeson is so fine, and everything. O! dear. You must see it. I could go again. Marge also stayed for two shows. Helen Westley was splendid and took "Edna May Oliver's["] part in original co. I wept a little. Music thrilled me. All those old songs.
The G.Z. is coming as production at Strand June 6, but will come as a cheaper movie, later.
Am I your little spendthrift? Please forgive me.
I was going to Zonta at 6 P.M. as International President was being there, but Marge had bo't peas, strawberries, new potatoes, hamburg etc, so I told her I would come home, & go back early with Anthony.
Went bird store for Jane, bo't pattern, buttons for dress, got green yarn at Knitting Nook to darn my suit. Saw Cecile and supper to A.K.W's.
Zonta at 7.30. All in evening dress but I did'nt mind. Enjoyed the girls. Virginia Cook wanted me to go home with her, and had a nice cold bottle of "Budweiser". Her boy friend phoned and she went back to Arlington Tap room. Wanted me to go in, but did'nt have courage. I could see Fritz thru window. Wondered what he would do if I went in. Went home on my merry way, rather sad too.
This morning he phoned Marge about washing. She told him we were going to Owego and he said it was a good thing he did'nt go as he intended doing. So he stills [sic] feels very hard towards me.
Flo left and took every thing, pots, pans, linens, silver loving cup - ha! ha! and said she would never come back to Bingo. Marge said Fritz told her she took the things to White's, and that Mrs. White had heard from her (Fritz has'nt). Enough of this rubbish! -
Did'nt I put in a full two days, and make every minute count?
Anthony is talking quite seriously of coming to N.Y. to work. He has told Martin and he is arranging an audition for him. Perhpas the Klem's will all be in N.Y. Ha! Ha!
