June 22/36Dearest Sweetie-Pie :-
Thank you so much for your very interesting letter which came Sat. morning. I devoured its contents ravenously. I look forward to your letters so much and they make me so-o-o-oo happy.
Did you pay the insurance and get that receipt? Please answer this question. I must send check for Prudential again. You know Ins. must'nt lapse, or we would be out of luck if anything were to happen. Find out definitely when the man will come. Well we will soon be together and then things will adjust themselves.
Jane & I went to see "The Case of [sic] Mrs. Ames." Fri. night. [Actually titled "The Case Against Mrs. Ames"] It was very good. "Madeleine Carroll" and "Geo. Brent" had the star roles. She was in "39 Steps" and this is her first American picture.
We put in a very busy week, pulling Quack grass, planting garden, cleaning etc. Am waiting for painters and diggers. Jane signed papers at Ad's, and Arthur has signed. Well that will soon be over. Ad. sent lawyer (Fritz's) the account, and he can pay for that.
Intended writing you yesterday, but helped Jane in morning & Marge & An with Billy were at Marion's in morning or for dinner & here later. Anthony was with us all the P.M. telling us (he's) all about his work etc. They were all very nice. Was going back with them but Jane wanted me to stay, so "here am I."
Am going up Wednesday for the rest of the week. Jane is going up one day. We want to see "A Midsummer Night's dream" at the Strand for three days, and then I shall give them a rest here, altho Jane does'nt want me to go. She says its [sic] going to be very lonely when I'm gone.
Another reason for my delinquency is "The Last Puritan" which I am reading - I rented it. Can you imagine? I like it very much. It is'nt easy reading, but I am enjoying it. I must develop my mind, to keep up a little with my daughter. Ha! Ha!
Well, we have one baby bird hatched yesterday, and its [sic] alive. I have'nt seen it, as the mother bird, has it under its wing most of the time. jane is quite excited. She certainly loves animals. I like birds myself, but not the idea of their dying.
Paige St. is'nt rented as yet and it makes me discouraged. Arthur Stiles does'nt seem to have any success with it. Will put an ad in the paper again. I think when the painters come and the yard is fixed up, that people will begin to enquire about it.
When are the Young's moving? Am going to make out checks to-day, for Altman's and Franklin Simon's and send in the next letter. Will you please take care of them right away? Just tear the top off and mail to them with check, with am't written on top. I'll send sample and then on the lower part, put Pd. date, check no, and keep to file as they do not mail receipt.
Binghamton had a very hard electric storm Sat. night, but it passed over here. Thank Goodness! It has been very cool yesterday & to-day. I have my sweater on & Jane has started a wood fire in her furnace.
Anthony is all pepped up about his audition. He will probably go down in two wks. Will only stay a day, so you won't see him. Would'nt it be nice if he moved to N.Y.? All the bands that come thru here, tell him he should be in N.Y. He looks very nice these days.
Well, sweetie-pie, I have'nt ans'd your letter, but will after the post man arrives. So unless something unforeseen happens you should hear from me again right soon. Jane sends love & kisses and of course I am expressing all mine, because I have so many to send.
Your adorablest
"Tillie"I love you.
