A Letter written on Nov 7, 1929

Nov 7 - 1929

My dear Jeannette:-

Please pardon my not writing you, but havent [sic] just been in the mood of writing any one, work has been very scarce and no one seems to have much money. I finally did get some work in the New Lyric Theater on water st; mechanics need changing, some seats in the balcony, I have to do it in the fore noon and after 11 pm on a/c of the noise. I get 75 cts per hour and this will help me out in the rent. I also have a few of those Black Giant chickens. I had a fellow raise a few for experiment .. they are larger size, now. I took 6 down to apalachin [a town 15 miles from Binghamton], and will sell 4 or 5 next week. They are beautiful very dark Green black only 7 months old some weight 9 lbs. each, and I have 1 [cock?] in particular that I'll keep he weights 11 1/4 lbs. now. I have also been working in a lunch room a few hours per day for my board this all helps out but not just the kind of work I like to do. I start my first chick Bus. 1st week in Feby I'll have a small store I think near the Post Office, and it cant [sic] come any to[o] quick. I am also building a Battery system for my chickens for next spring, so I cant afford to pay out $500.00 and thats what a system costs to keep 5,000 chickens per week, what I make next spring I'll have all, and get my pay each day, and not like up to the seed store last summer.

The chick Bus looks good for next spring and have plenty of Prospects. I hope you are doing nicely and don't suppose you are doing much in archery - Suppose its [sic] cold up there[.] Its [sic] very nice here no snow yet, and hope there wont [sic] be till Thanksgiving. Do you come home then or wait till Christmas?

I hope you are well, and doing fine, and hope to see you soon,

Lovingly
Papa
