Nine P.M.
Mon. Jan. 26/31Dearest darling sweetheart Jeannettekins:-
Here I biz, seated at your desk writing in ans. to your dear letters rec'd Sat. and to-day respectively! Your [sic] such a dear girl to write so often, especially when you are busy with exams.
Am I busy? (Sat my cards were piled high, and I did'nt get out until 9.15 P.M. The last minute the table that has the old books on [it] collapsed and I left the books on the floor. Was too tired to pick them up. 86 books out and 308 on wk. Am getting lots of new customers. To-day 66 went out. I was snowed under. Too many sitters around.
Yesterday your father used vacuum sweeper for me and then we went up to shop and he cut that book case off for me. You know, made it narrower[.] Its [sic] much better. We had our dinner at 6 P.M. Both very tired. I worked on books, put up new posters etc. Then I went to Bella's, had promised her I would.
Your father came up to Shop to-night to put new board across the top shelf and we were going to paint. They had cut the board too short. So we had to leave. It was 7.30 when we got home. We've had our dinner and now your dad is going to P.O. to mail this letter. I cooked a big dish of lima beans, and yum! yum! they were so good. We eat home, just the same as when you were here.
Thanx for clipping, will show that to my readers. I will ask Mr Schmeiske about your watch, and tell you what he says to write. I think you should let them fix it.
Mama is better. Have'nt been down. Too busy. Will soon have to have a helper.
Well, darling, this is short and sweet, but want to get it mailed. Don't study too hard. Oodles of love and billions of kisses.
from your darling
Muddikins.Love to Irene and gang.
Your father sends his love and says he will write.
[on the reverse of the newspaper clipping was part of an article about the banking panic of 1930: "Mitchell says it was impossible to say how many other banks were forced to close "due to hysteria" might be reopened in the near future, but added that several were working on plans to resume business. Many of the banks which closed in late November and December were forced to stop operations even though they were solvent, Mitchell said."]
