A Letter written on Feb 29, 1936

Jane sends love and plenty of it.

Feb. 29/1936
Sat A.M. (10.30)

Dearest darling Jeannette:-

The postman just bro't your heavy mail with check enclosed. Thank you so much dearie, but you did'nt keep enough for yourself. Please don't deprive yourself of so much, besides, do you eat enough? Don't skimp, dearie.

Have you recovered from the last letter? I did so wish that you could have been saved all that extra trouble. Are you going to help me find a position? I guess that's asking too much.

I suppose you have been to the Mortuary and are at Grace's to-day. It is wonderful out and hope the sun is shining as brightly where you are staying.

Thurs. P.M. Jane & I went to see "The Melody Lingers On" with "Josephine Hutchinson" in cast. It was just fair. She was the "Alice in Wonderland" with Theatre Guild Players, I think. Anyway, she was that type and then to play a mother at the end of picture, was too, too, much. I did'nt cry.

Yesterday Jane took me to see "I Found Stella Parish," with Kay Francis, Ian Hunter, Paul Lukas, and Sybil Jason (she was adorable)[.] That was splendid. Also a mother story and very well done. Jane is surely doing everything for my comfort and entertainment.

My boy friend was'nt at the dance that I played for, thank goodness. I did'nt take cold and enjoyed playing very much. They did the Snitzel Bank and I had to take the ruler and put them thru it. The others fell down on the job.

Was so surprised to hear that Helen was in N.Y. Tried to phone her, but could'nt get any response.

I shall have to learn how to make cherry cobblers. They are delicious I think.

If I go to Buffalo, it will be on an excursion. Want to see Will on account of this settlement.

It was too bad that you could'nt go to M.H. club dinner. That's always the way it goes.

Am glad you were so tho'tful of Mrs. Connor. She has been so nice to you but you had better keep more money for yourself, and not make yourself so short, dearie.

Yes, the weather has been terrific, and perhaps the reason I did'nt speak about it oftener was the fact that I was'nt out in it and Jane kept it very comfortable here.

Would you like to go in for fencing? It must have been very interesting.

Stopped in(to) the church office and visited with Miss Stevens the other day. Met the new minister. He seemed very nice.

Zonta Club are having a dinner Tues. night and they are very anxious to have me come. The losers in the attendance contest (of which I was one) are dressing in Summer clothes and winners in Winter. We are supposed to be on our way home from South. They had planned to make this my party and leave me off at N.Y. but Nellie Griggs fell and party was postponed and they were afraid I would be gone.

Just had a note from Bing. saying Dr. Andrews would'nt be in Office until Tues A.M. but shall leave Sun. for Bing. just the same. Mail my letters here for I shall be back as soon as I can. If I stay, Jane will forward them to me.

Must close darling, and mail this so you will get it Monday. Take good care of yourself and don't get discouraged. I will be with you soon, and then we will make up for lost time.

Again thanking you a million times for being my sweet child, with lotions of love, and billions of kisses, I remain your darling mother, who just found out, how little anything matters, but you.
