A Letter written on Mar 6, 1936

Fri. Mar. 6/36
4.15 P.M.

Dearest darling Jeanie :-

Ezra went to Bing. at 1.34 and the house is quiet so tho't I would have a nice visit, and ans. your sweet letters which were so enjoyable.

Before I forget to mention it, please be careful [in] this weather and don't take cold. The Spring is always so treacherous, and when the first mild days come, we all feel like shedding our heavy clothes and overshoes. Be careful sweetie-pie!

Your letter written at Irene's was so nice, long and interesting, and you girls must have had a grand time to-gether. The weather was ideal, but I was'nt out looking at stars, so did'nt notice them.

I certainly hope Grace will be happy, but I don't approve of living with another family. Perhaps she will manage alright. At least it did'nt sound very romantic to me. She certainly rec'd a nice assortment of gifts. What a clever idea for place cards! And the dinner! Yum Yum!

We will have some entertaining to do, won't we dearie? You can do all the planning and I will do the work. Ha! Ha!

Am so pleased to hear Mr. Gleason's business is booming. People are buying again, you see. What goes down, must come up!

As for the car, think we had better start with a Ford, and finish perhaps with an "Hispano." [luxury car brand] What say?

Yes, we are getting our bills paid. Poor darling! I don't wonder you ask. Paid Ins. again, 4 wks. until Apr. 1. and my Mon. policy. Also took care of note in Bank.

While at Helen's, read article in "Fortune" on D.D. [Doubleday Doran, Jeanie's employer] You see even Nelson is'nt bookish. After, all, money is what they are all after and productive. At least your [sic] with a going concern. It was very interesting. Did you read it?

Perhaps Miss Ryan thinks you know a little more than she would like to have you. Keep your chin up, dearie, and don't let them bother you. Your [sic] good and I know it. That's life, dearie, a fight all the way unless you drift and then where are you. I will soon be with you to cheer you up when you come home and have some dinner ready for you. Won't it be grand?

It would please Mr. Hawkins to read that line, I know.

I heard "3 oclock in the morn" last night and I tho't of you and our grand home coming. It was was'nt it? You ate that chicken sandwich and sat in the morris chair. Well, it was just too wonderful and no ill effects.

Rec'd Treyz bill and letter. Will see them when in Binghamton, and find out how everything is being taken care of. The contract was in that letter you forwarded, listing all articles. They are charging $3.00 a mon. storage. Not bad.

You were such a darling to tell me not to worry and O.K. what I am doing about insurance. And to think that you trust me! I honestly believe you do. It is a wonderful feeling. Of course your [sic] all that matters, and I hope to spend the rest of the time with you, if you'll have me. I'm not unhappy, dearie, and feeling better all the time. That is mentally. Of course physically, I'm fine. This is a good place to be when upset. Jane & birds sing, and no gloom. Yes, dearie, I want to work, to help all I can, and get out of my jam. I am not discouraged, and sorry I sound that way. I did'nt mean to. Am tired of hanging around, you understand, don't you dearie?

Wonder what happened [to] Mr. Jones. Do you think he was demoted? How did Grace know about it? Hope not, as I think he is such a splendid man.

This weather makes me want to do things and "get going." We may go to Binghamton to-morrow with Edna. Think I shall wait another week with my teeth, as those places still feel sore to press on them. If I had been in N.Y. we would'nt have paid up so many things and you would have had a toothless "Momee" around, besides dentists are much more expensive. So we are being practical and lonesome but won't it be a grand & glorious feeling when I see my peegee and we are anchored in Hempstead or thereabouts?

Until then, and with lotions of love (and kisses) I remain your Owego Correspondent T.K. who just found out that she can never repay her darling daughter. Jane & Ez. send love*
