A Letter written on Mar 15, 1936

My love to all the Wheelers. How is Estate business coming?

Dearest darling sweetheart Muddikins -

I love you beaucoup, beaucoup, beaucoup. Wish I could see you and tell you how much right this minute.

It was a shock to everyone at D.D. [Doubleday Doran, where Jeannette works] to hear that Miss Tankard died Friday morning. I never realized how much you could miss a person you'd worked with. I've been reading proof in her office so someone would be there. The operation wasn't too successful, but she'd been writing letters etc. Miss Ryan had one Fri. a.m. and Mr. Albert expected her back Tuesday. Miss Ryan feels terribly because they always ate together and were very good friends. The strange part is that they don't know the cause of death & have to have an autopsy.

She was such a lovely person, not more than 45, and very valuable to D.D. I don't know who will take her place, or try to.

I had to work 4 1/2 hrs. Saturday, and I think we get paid time and a half. Got $35.95 this week (overtime).

Friday night after work I was all in from the strain, but had to go out to dinner at Young's. We had a very nice one. Dr. Kerr, they and I saw "School for Scandal" at Adelphi. You can imagine how much it was like Ethel Barrymore's! I didn't tell them I had seen it before. They didn't know the title beforehand. I nodded 2 or 3 times, but hope no one noticed.

Billy's writing is so cunning. Didn't find it till later.

How are your toofies? Do they hurt? Mr. Gleason said lowers were much more than uppers. Take care of them! Write & tell me all the news.

What would Auntie Jane like from N.Y.? Would like to send her something, maybe after you arrive. Marj too, if we can. Note colors, etc.

XXXXXXXXX
Your own Jeanie.
