February 14, 1922.

Professor Abby H. Turner,
Mount Holyoke College,
South Hadley, Mass.

My dear Professor Turner:

I was very glad to receive your letter about Miss Hazeltene Stedman, who had already received favorable consideration in a previous year from our Committee on Scholarships, largely in view of your favorable recommendation. I shall be glad to call attention anew to your impressions of her, and shall urge a favorable consideration when the Committee meets.

It will be necessary for Miss Stedman to renew her application at the Office of the Graduate School, Yale University, before March first. I am asking the Executive Secretary to forward the necessary blanks, etc., to the candidate, care the Baldwin School at Bryn Mawr.

It is only fair to tell you that the competition for places involving financial assistance will be extremely brisk this year; otherwise I might be able to give you some definite assurance regarding the prospects of your candidate for an appointment. I appreciate very highly the sort of information which you have furnished.

With cordial personal greetings, I am

Very truly,
Layfayette B. Mendel
