A Letter written on Mar 30, 1906

Woodbury, March. 30, 1906.

Dear Mary -

I do not feel in a very talkative mood I have just been writing some letters of thanks for the W.C.T.U. we may be poor in money but certainly rich when it comes to thanks pouring them out with a lavish hand and expecting me to put them on paper in the same effusive manner and if you could see the one I have just finished for Miss Gardiner you would say she might send us some of her delicious things in return - but seriously speaking I have the greatest regard and respect for her and will never forget the brave way in which she met the difficulties and carried the burdens for the whole family at the time of Mr. Terry's death and for a long, long time after - she is untiring in her devotion to the First Church and is so good she offered to make chicken croquettes and went over to fry them and would not even take a ticket for her supper.

Wayne, poor chap has the toothache and he is of the male sex and endures? it like a man. he had this tooth filled last week and I am afraid will have to have it taken out I am sorry.

Gladys has just come in from school she is doing her best this winter and finds it trying she seems so tired so often that I feel something else would be better for her but she knows too little to stop yet, she gets good marks in Latin it is her grammar that is her trial and Miss Colburn is very anxious not to have any of them have it left over she is willing to stay after school and help them. It has been a very rainy day if it is clear I may go to town to-morrow for Grandma may go away on Monday. I feel shaky about fence [?] shoes you do not want big sloppy shoes and I think 1's [?] are wide enough.

if you are so fat and find your dress belts too tight take them to a dress maker don't try to do it yourself for if I remember rightly that black skirt was close fitting in the belt - I do not like to tax Mrs. Carpenter's box too much but if I should send one alone they would never share mine so what shall I do doughnuts and head are bulky but I guess she can find a corner.

I want to get Gladys a white dotted swiss and then she will be fixed for summer.

The Concert was not very well attended and Emma was a little discouraged Mabel was down, said they are all well. I am so pleased over your visit that I am as anxious almost to hear about it as you to go - most of the school girls are home for the holiday Margaret Rogers comes to-day - the doves are very quiet and even Ruth wishes they would call

I must stop now Margaret is about through[.] What kind of gloves will you need for graduating - I will finish in the next -

Mama
