Dear Bessie,

This is just a note to carry my good wishes to you at the beginning of the year, and to thank you for your card. I was still in South Hadley when it came, about at the end of my packing, and after a week of unpacking in London I came here for a two weeks rest and holiday.

Yesterday I had a canoe trip with an old Indian, said to be eighty years old. He cooked the lunch on the rocks in bright sunshine that was much appreciated after some showery weather. I was glad of the cool weather while packing, but it was not so good for summer travel.

When you are settled into the year's work, I should be very glad to hear from you, if you have time for writing. I shall be back in London taking up some work too next week.

Hoping that you will enjoy all your courses, and your other work.

Cordially yours
Elizabeth R. Laird
