Naugatuck Methodist Church
Naugatuck, ConnecticutRev. William M. Nesbit, Ph.D., Minister
15 Frederick Street
Phone 4236My own dear little Girl;--
I have just heard Harvard beat the panties off of the Army.
The ArmyHarvard didn't begin to score until the second half. Before I forget, Papa, when he mails this letter is also mailing a parcel post package -- so be on the look out for it. On account of it being Armistice Day, the post office is partly open and partly closed. I hope you get the package to-morrow. It looks like a small saltine box. Long and narrow. Did you see that the coach for Yale has taken over half the yale [sic] team off? After the game last week 33-0 in favor of Dartmouth, the Yale Coach expressed himself. Said it was the worst team he had ever coached.Did I tell you that I weighed the cats? Brownie -- 12 pounds and Andrewsia -- 8 pounds. She goes to sleep in Papa's car when the window is open. Sleeps on the back seat. I am writing in the Dining Room and Brownie is asleep on the table. Papa's cold is better but it is a little cloudy yet. It is time for him to take his Benzoin but he is taking a little nap instead. I telephoned to Mrs. Shinn and she said I could go over to her house and practice before the Ministers' and their Wives meeting Monday P.M. Which as I told you is to be at Mrs. Davis' house. I am going to sing the Chinese Mother-Goose rhymes, and Papa will interpret them. I am going to wear my black lace dress. I have studied my Sunday-School lesson for to-morrow and I have no solo so I feel quite free. Papa is going to have a wedding on Saturday Morning at 10A.M. If you are able to come home, it will not interfere with our Program. The Bride looks ever so much like Violet Miller. Do you remember her? She wore very thick glasses. Was blonde. Even her hat looked like the hat that Violet used to wear. The groom is Russian and wears side-boards. Makes him look like a Movie-Star. Did you hear about Leslie Howard. He had a collision during a blackout in London and he knocked out three front teeth had severe chest injuries (I imagine he was driving his own car) and also suffered a broken jaw. They kept it quiet as I guess they were afraid that it would hurt his pictures.
How is Sally's Mamma? The card I sent her was very pretty. Pink and silver. Did you receive your bonnet O.K.? You know I bet there is a card for Papa and me from you, down in the P.O. They had only one delivery to-day and so often We get your letters in the P.M. I think you have made a splendid record in your correspondence. I have been dating all your letters (the envelopes) and you should see the bunch. I suppose your notepaper will arrive in about a week. If you are short I will send you some if you wish it. I have some of ours. Do not buy any. They charge so much for it. I think the paper we buy is certainly a bargain.
I will close now. Papa has awakened and will take this to the P.O.
Lots and lots of love from
Mama.Nov. 11, 1939.
