Mama and I got home safe and sound, at 10:45. On the way we went thru some of the heaviest driving rain that I have ever encountered. I did not care to risk the chance of fog on the Prospect Road; so we took the Southington Mountain Road into Waterbury -- and it was a good thing that we did -- for we ran into one of the densest fogs ever, so dense that the only way for us to keep going was by following the white stripe in the middle of the road. It certainly was quite an adventure. We stopped at Weed's for some supper. Mama had chicken salad and coffee; and I consumed poached egg on toast and coffee. It was very good.
The cats greeted us with the question "Where is the Child?" So we gave them your love. Mama was pleased to discover that my temperature was absolutely normal. We were pretty well tired out, so we had a dandy snooze.
Mama and [I] are delighted with the way things opened up at Mt. Holyoke yesterday. Such a lovely room! Such nice girls -- both Betty and Marjory! -- and the thought you are going to be in the same class and the same dormitory with your old friend from Wilmington!! I suppose that you hunted her up last evening. Did you find her somewhat grown since you last saw her?
Our chief indoor sport today has been imagining what you were doing. All four of us are feeling fine. Brownie has been retrieving beautifull [sic] for Mama.
Let me know, as soon as you can, what your French texts are to be -- also what English dictionary you should have.
I enclose the receipt for your trunk. Here is also a rather nice copy of the 12c perf 10 1/2 x 11. [The stamp is no longer with the letter.]
With "lotions of love" from your doting Mama and
Papa.September 20, 1938.
