Rev. Dr. William M. Nesbit

New Haven, Conn.Sept. 21 - 1938.
My own dear little girl:-
Papa is going down to post the letters - so I am writing you a few lines. Am feeling fine and Papa's indigestion is gone. Brownie is with me every minute - but Andrewsia just walks about when she is not asleep. She won't look at me - and acts very cranky. I know she misses you, very much. Brownie follows me from room to room and looks up in my face. I am so glad that you went to Holyoke - on Monday. Miss Davis told me that the roads to Holyoke were impassable this morning. The Radio is broad casting every little while - about Road Conditions. Route 5 - and 5A. are entirely closed (the route from New Haven to Hartford) two of the dams have burst and they have dynamited a third. - worst traffic and river conditions since the flood in 1936. I am so glad that you are safe and sound.
I have just filled Aunt Lissa's pen and am trying it out. It works very well "so far." We are having this moment - a miniature hurricane. Such terrible wind - and whistling. You know it - I don't have to explain. At 8 A.M. we heard the famous Russian diplomat Litvinoff addressing the "league" at Geneva. It was very fine sounded just like Papa. He said the "League" was like "diluted syrup." He came over every station. The wind is at it again I am supposed to go to the Fidelity class supper to-night - but not if it pours as it is doing now.
Mrs. Richardson has had a big disappointment. Betty has been sent to the Boston office of the firm she works for - and she and Judy - have had to break up the apartment. Mrs. Richardson feels very badly - because they will not be able to go to Boston by auto and it will be lonesome for Mrs. R. and Billy too. That is the trouble when a friend has a number of offices in different cities. This is the worst wind I have seen since we were in Hurlock.
I was so pleased with everything and everybody at the College. I feel as if I could sit down and talk to you for hours. Writing is so inadequate. We have just heard over the Radio - that the Czechs. have given in. Papa is disgusted and says it is not the end of it. Am waiting for a letter[.]
Love -
Mamma.
