[Some paragraph breaks added for ease of reading.]Dear little Girl:-
I am in the Post Office in New Haven. Papa has gone to get the car. It is 6 P.M. and is snowing but only a little. Have just had our supper at the Chinese Restaurant. Chinese clam chowder (delicious) shrimp chop suey with pineapple. Meat chow mein. Rice Cakes and tea. To-day is the first day I have had my shoe on, or have been off the porch. I am a little tired now - but the foot feels very comfortable. Rec'd your lovely letter. The date for Sallie is O.K and we will certainly be glad to have her. About the dinner, I will have to wait until I see how the foot gets its strength. Dr. Reade does not want me to stand on it too much, until it gets normal, as he does not want me to wear my elastic stocking yet.
New Haven certainly looks good. Met Mrs. Hope. Her brother died Monday. He was captain of the Hudson River boat - I think. Been sick for about 3 years. Will go to church on Sunday, weather permitting. Am so glad you can come home during exams. Will go to see Robin Hood at first opportunity. They say the new "Topper" picture is a scream. Will do some chestnuts as soon as I can, also some almonds.
So thankful my foot is better. Mrs. Neary is laid up with a bad foot. Has water in it. Doctor Pyle strapped it and said "Keep off of it.["] and to-day, the Garden Dept. of the Womens Club has their annual meeting at her house. She went to the Doctors again yesterday and was about frantic. They expected over 100 guests to-day. She said to me - "How can I keep off it?"
I am using the Post Office Pen - hence the messy writing. Glad the skirts are O.K. I had my doubts but the tailor is better than I thought. Will close now as Papa will be in - any minute. Wanted you to get this letter to-morrow. Don't worry - if you miss a day, or two. Sometimes it is hard to get down to the P.O. in time.
Lots of love from
Mummie.P.S. Papa is here, says it is snowing brute hard.
