Dear Bessie,

What a pleasant surprise to receive your picture! Thank you very much. It is very lovely and I am proud to have it. My "house-mates" have been admiring it.

Did you know that at semesters I moved into a new dorm? One of the faculty used to live in it. We twelve who live here think such a house is more fun than living in a large dorm. We have lots of room now because there are only two in a room. It is a short walk from the main buildings to our house but we like that, too.

The group of girls here on campus whom I like best have asked me to join their sorority. It is not expensive and the girls are so nice I have decided to join. They have a house on campus but not quite all the girls live in it because there isn't room.

The right kind of social atmosphere at college is necessary in order to be well adjusted to the life of the college. Last week was "hell-week" for informal initiation. We had to do all kinds of crazy things that were fun. One day we had to wear dark glasses and carry a glass of water. Once we had to were [sic] bows of ribbon on all our fingers and carry a candle and another time we had to walk upstairs backwards. All week we had to address the members of our sorority by three names and curtsey. [sic] Formal initiation is next Tuesday. There will be a formal banquet at a country club near hear. [sic]

Write soon and tell me everything that is going on at Mount Holyoke.

Love,
Dorothy
