Dear Mama & Papa,
Hello! Greetings! It was so nice to receive your letter this morning. How is your cold, mama? I am looking forward to coming home next week end. I'll be all through at 11 A.M. Friday morning. Just think, half of my sophomre year is over. I am writing this letter while listening to Charlie.
Yesterday after I wrote you the letter, Sally and I went to Springfield. We saw Gone with the Wind. It was the most wonderful movie I have ever seen. I thought the praises of it were exaggerated until I saw it. No praises of it were good enough. It was 3 and a quarter hours long, but not a dull second. Everone sat and looked very intently. The photography is all in color and is simply magnificent. Only cost 75¢ for the afternoon show. Then we had dinner at the Restaurant, the card of which I enclose.

When we got back at nine last night, we were both very tired so we went straight to bed. This morning I went to church and heard one of the funniest sermons. We all sat and laughed & laughed. I haven't done a thing today but take it easy. Thanks for the money, book, letters and your good wishes. I am going to have a French exam on Wed and the Eng. Lit Fri. morning.
Here is something very amusing. We were at lunch the other day and were discussing the old "S" which looks like an F. You know it. Well the Chinese girl asked one of the kids whether a wife-man was a man who was married. Apply an S for the F and you see the answer one of the girls gave her.
Next Tues, not this coming one, Carl Sandburg is going to visit the college in person. I hope to hear him. Please be thinking of me this week also.
Sally went to Holyoke to the movies with the boy from Mass. State this evening. We took quite a long walk this afternoon, and although it was quite cold, it was very refreshing. I may have to ask you for some more money when I come home because my N.Y.A. check was only for $3.25. I enjoy the cold weather so much because it is so invigorating, it makes you feel glad to be alive.
I have decided to go in for exercise a little more this semester in order to reduce my hips.
Have you seen anyone about a job for the summer? I do so hope I can get one. It would make me feel that I am doing my part. My watch is on the blink. Perhaps I have it fixed while I am home. It will be nice not to have any home work to do next week end when I come home. It will be swell to see you folks again. Perhaps when the weather gets better, you can come up to see me occasionally. Thanks again for everything.
Love & kisses,
Bessie
