Dear Mama,

Greetings from obedient (sometimes) child. I received the wonderful laundry case yesterday. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! The brownies are better than ever before and that's saying something & it's not only my opinion but it's the general concensus. [sic] The crackers are awfully good too. Those mixed cocktail crackers are delicious. - - - The only thing lacking is the cocktail - - - but I suppose you would [not] dare send a bottle of spirits for fear it might break. The dresses came thru' fine and thanks for the buttons etc. which I forgot.

Speaking about the European situation, what do you think of the President's speech? Mr. Bailey opened class yesterday by asking what the kids had thought of the President's spiel. One of the girls remarked she thought "It was swell". You can see the campus opinion is changing. Many people favor a joint democratic and republican gov't with Roosevelt as president & Wendle Wilke as vice-president.

The Adames [sic] can't come to dinner on Sunday - worse luck. Spring dance will take place this Sat. night. By the way, did papa succeed in getting the lazy Kentuckian to take the pulpit on Sunday?

The weather here has been very muggy for the last couple of days.

I must stop now and do some French. We are having Bossuet now.

Love,
Bessie.
