Waterbury, Ct.Dear Bessie,
I was very pleased to receive your letter to-day and am hastening to answer because I feel that I owe you an apology. I am very sorry that we couldn't get together for a double date and I don't want you to think that I was trying to slide out of it. I have been very busy the last several weeks. Work is rushing and stamps are very busy. You see I sold over fifty Scott catalogues and maybe you don't think there was some work getting those out and mailed.
Thank you for thinking of my wrist - it is fine now.
I was looking for your father last night but he did not show up at Stamp Club. I would like to take a drive up to Mount Holyoke some Sunday or another day and thought maybe we could do the same as before I'll get in touch with your Dad before long and see what he thinks. Of course I don't want to be
tooforward and you will think I am inviting myself. Neither do I want you to feel that I am not willing to drive up in my car. In fact it please[s] me very much especially & depending on what's on the other end of the drive. I don't mean your Freshman sister, either. The first weekend you're home you let me know ahead of time and we'll have a date regardless of anyone else. If no other couple can make it, we'll go along and I promise you I'll try to make up for what we missed upon.
Uncle Sam is issuing three new "Defense" stamps next month and I guess you want yours sent to college. I'll do that anyway.
If you can read this scribble you're very good therefore I won't try to make you figure out too much French.
Au revoir,
Dan
