Mama and I had a very interesting drive home on Sunday night. Somewhere in Southwick (the THICKLY SETTLED region) the fog got pretty thick - - and it kept on getting thicker from there on. In Granby and in Simsbury we resembled Yankee Doodle, in that we couldn't see the town - - - but we surpassed the famous prototype of patriotic song, in that we couldn't see any houses either. We knew where we were because we were able to sense the presence of street lights - - which are not found in the open country. And - - believe me - - we were grateful to that great genius who first thought of painting a stripe in the middle of the road. That stripe was certainly a life-saver. Occasionally we followed the tail-light of another car; and let the other fellow work. Sometimes we looked back, and saw a procession following us. For some reason or other, nobody seemed to be after any speed records. However we were in no hurr[y.] We moved along serenely - - if not majestically - - and discussed what a lovely time we had had during the brief visit of our favorite cheeild. We got home at 12:30 - - agreeing that even ride home had been lots of fun - - a real adventure.
We surely are glad to learn that your optic is coming along O.K. I think I shall buy a set of boxing-gloves for Sally and you to wear to bed - or perhaps goggles would be better.
ENTEUTHEN EXELAUNO How is my old friend Xenophon? including DAREIOS and PARYSATIS and their DUO PAIDES?
This surely has been a busy week. Out every evening except Tuesday - - and Tuesday I spent in N.Y. Thursday evening we had three meetings. The Anniversary Gift has reached $531 and is still going stro[ng.] Now we are beating it to New Haven to attend the Bishop's meeting today (Saturday) afternoon and evening.
Mama is fine; I am fine; the cats are fine (except that Brownie ate a tea-ball, which upset his stomach.[)]
Now we must run. Mama says "hurry" - - and you know what
Oodles of love
