Dear Friend:

Just a few lines to let you know that I was discharged from the army on Friday Oct 31, 1941.

Some of boys left last night for N.H. but a few of us stayed over in Jacksonville for the night. We are leaving to-night on the 900 P.M. and will be in New Haven Sunday night.

The troops left camp the first part of the week, for maneuvers in S.o. [sic] Carolina.

It feels good to be a civilian again knowing that you can go and come as you please.

The training in the army was pretty hard at times but I think it did us some good and we will always remember the eight months that we spent in the army. It gave us a good chance to look over the South-land but I still think I would rather live in New England.

It probably will [be] a couple of weeks be-fore I go back to work again but I guess it won't take very long to settle down to civilian life after I reach New Haven.

The weather down here is pretty hot yet so I guess when I get back to NH they will be wearing over-coats.

Well I guess that is all from now hoping you are all enjoying your last year in college.

Sincerely yours
Earl [Walker]
