Dear little Girl:

Papa has just gone out to the store - so I am writing. We rec'd your pictures - at 8 A.M. yesterday - We thought they were excellent but both of us liked especially - the one we returned to you. I think that is the best picture you have ever had taken. Papa had it back at the Post Office in short order and they told Papa it would go out in the one o'clock mail - We wondered whether you received it last night or this morning. You certainly do look like Papa - even Papa himself sees the resemblance.

To-night, the John Wesley meeting is at the Browns. When Papa went around there the other day - Mrs. Brown was scrubbing down the painted walls in the bed rooms - preparatory to our coming. She was completely tired out - but the walls were clean. Isn't that New England? To-day, the Congregational Church in Prospect burnt to the ground - but they saved the parsonage which was in process of erection. There was no water - so they laid the hose on the bed of a stream and obtained water that way. I heard the alarm - but of course didn't know where the fire was. Naugatuck sent their fire apparatus. The fire started in the cellar. The "Rose" dress shoppe burned to nothing the other night - and they gave the proprietor the third degree for five hours - Evidently they thought he knew something about it. He is going to have a new store next door to Grieve - Bisset and Holland.

We are up to our eyes in work for the Fair. I am going to take the tickets for the Supper and also for the 2 nights of the Minstrel Show. It is complicated on account of the Federal Tax. Monday night I went to the first complete rehearsal of the Minstrel - They had good volume in the Chorus - and the jokes were clean - Monday night Dec. 1 - is the last rehearsal so Papa and I are going to treat the cast to Sandwiches and Coffee.

Word just came over the air that Washington says - we will know whether we are at war with Japan - in 72 hours. Heard the last half of the Army Navy Game[.] It had a tinge of sadness - about it - for all the men - on the Navy team squad with the exception of 11 - will be on Submarines or destroyers in 3 weeks. The need of officers is so great that they are graduating them in Dec. instead of June. Harold Dibble has been drafted - and Ray Yarrison says he will probably go in the next lot. I phoned to Sugenheimer's and cancelled the order. Did you hear that Vivian Leigh and Loretta Young are both going to have babies? The Catholic Church Legue [sic] in Conn. - has banned Greta Garbo's new movie - the one where she plays the double part of twin sisters.

Mrs. Peterson brought her new baby - Elinor Ruth - to Ladies Aid much to the disgust of the ladies. A dear little baby - looks a good deal like the Papa Peterson - acted sort of stupid - and languid - they have to shake her - to wake her up while she is taking her bottle. Seems too tired to even eat.

Well, I guess I will close now and get dressed - I could write on for some time - but the "Jaloppy" has just arrived. Am so pleased with the picture -

Love and a big kiss.
Mamma.
