A Letter Written on Jan 5, 1939

My own dear little girl -

Thanks for the letter[.] We were so anxious to hear how things were. Do not neglect your throat. Those infections if neglected are apt to travel down and make trouble - and then they take longer to cure. My toe is fine. Just a little moisture - about like this O and almost color less - I have the foot up on the chair - naked - in front of the electric stove. I certainly am delighted. To-morrow or Sat. - I go over to Dr. Reade's - to let him pass on it. I will be glad when I can put on my shoe again - but I am not hurrying anything. So sorry about Sally. The weather at Christmas was not good for folks. I do hope it is only a light cold. The men are putting in the coal. It will last until March. Then with April come the spring flowers - and the Vacation - or maybe it will be in March - which is it? Had a surprise last night - Papa and I were sitting in the "Radio Deu" about 8-30 getting ready to write to you. I was sunning my foot and the front door bell rang. Papa went out the side door - and there were Earl and Charley and Gertrude Hopkins and Doris Brown. They had come as soon after Christmas - as they could - and were hoping you had not gone back to College yet. They stayed the whole evening and Charley was a comfort. Papa is waiting to mail this - I will have to close - will write in detail to-morrow.

Love Mummy.
