A Letter Written on Dec 3, 1938

Dear little girl:-

Received your lovely long welcome letter - and read it with manifestations of enthusiastic enjoyment. Mr. Pearson had phoned to us Sun. night that Catherine had just phoned to him that you had arrived safe and sound. Saluta et valida. So we knew that it was all right so far - and we suspected that you were loaded down with work. Nevertheless we were epistula tua recipta gavisi sumus.

We learn in a letter from Sunny that Hope has been in the hospital at Springfield for an operation. Had you heard anything about it?

I am glad that you have found out about the History. It is always best to go right to "Headquarters." Maybe some day you'll believe your paternal ancestor when he says that his Offspring knows her History. She has it in her head - but she may need to exercise more care in the matter of presentation. But don't worry: That comes with time and practice. In Sunny's letter, she just said Hope was coming home for Thanksgiving - and had been operated on - she didn't say the date - but I surmise it was just after she got to Holyoke - if she was all well enough to come home for Thanksgiving[.] If possible, and if you have time it would be nice to go and see her. Billy, her brother is fresh man at Dartmouth.

I sent the muff to use - to keep you warm. Use it on week days as well as Sunday - don't have cold hands. - nor cold feet.

Much love to
Hon. Child
from

Parents.
