Rev. Dr. William M. Nesbit
15 Frederick Street
Naugatuck, ConnecticutDear little Girl:-
Papa has just gone out to get their hair cut for to-morrow - so I am writing your "special". It is a beautiful day here - So warm and balmy. Papa has just been over to Waterbury - Mrs. Obst (Howard's sister) has just had a baby-boy. She is at St. Mary's - and Mrs. Currier, the old lady - Evelyn Tewksbury's grand-mother - has had a stroke and is at the Waterbury hospital - Her whole left side is affected - but she was able to talk and her mind was fine. Now Papa is going to stop in at Mrs. Fairbank's - she said she would have a cake for him - The colored woman who makes the bread has a sick husband - so she is not cooking at the present time. The Penroses - have had the big white lilac three cut down[.] It interfered with the road-bed to the Garage - and now it gives them almost 2 feet leeway and gives us more room too.
I wish they had waited until the lilac had bloomed once more - It was so beautiful and such a tree. I bought the lux to-day for your dresses - and I will get them up to you as soon as I can. I know you need them. Papa and I went to see the "Dictator" last night at the Genn - and it was very good - a peculiar mixture of slapstick comedy - and subtle anti-German propoganda. [sic] I didn't know that Chaplin had written it.
Papa and I certainly did wish - that we could have seen the "Prom" but of course the next best thing is for you to tell us about it. I forgot to tell you - that I lectured at the Bunker Hill Church on Wednesday. Made the date last Fall. Had a good crowd Papa helped me - and Mrs. Shattuck introduced us. For refreshments, they had tea & cupcakes. I wore Egyptian costume and spoke on Palestine.
It was lucky that you didn't invite Dan - for he is up to his eyes in work. Wed. morning Mrs. S. told me - he went to work - at 5.45 AM - on one building job and then came home - had his breakfast and went down to Silver Sands where he is building a house for somebody and worked there until dark. That is the way he does every day. I think it is overdoing it - but I suppose he knows his own strength.
Dr. Wentworth phoned me this morning - and asked if I could take part in the minstrel on Wed. night. Somebody has had to withdraw - and their program - isn't working out and they need some special numbers - so I asked papa and he said it would be best to help them out - so I will. I have 200 letters to send out next week - so it will make it pretty busy for me but Dr. W. has been nice to us. - and I don't want to let her down.
Papa has come home and will post this.
Love from the Bunch
