Thursday,

Dear Bessie,

I think I've started about five letters to you but something always interrupted, and I never finished them.

That was a darling valentine. Thank you so much.

Bonnie, (one of my roommates) and I sent Ed Task & his roommate Coop some goldfish, a bowl, fish food, and a pamplet [sic] on the care of fish. Along with this went a tender little valentine, which I constructed. It was a little phrase "All the things you are" surrounded with red hearts.

Friday noon when I saw "Coop," I thought I'd get him enthusiastic about his valentine, so I told him that he was going to have two blond visitors that afternoon, and for him to dress in his best clothes. I told him the blonds were just dying to meet him. The next day when I saw him he said - "You sure told the truth when you said that they were dying to meet us. They died in about two hours.["] Bonnie and I, needless to say, nearly went into convulsions! Coop said that when the fish arrived (via Western Union delivery boy) there was no one to receive them, and his cousin next door, heard a great pounding on Ed & Coop's door and this snarling voice saying "what am I going to do with these God dam fish," so he went out and rescued them.

The reason for their untimely death was because there is so much chlorine in the water that we can hardly drink it.

Coop took me to a dance Saturday night and during the intermission brought out the fish food and asked me if I was hungry. The louse!

I was asked to go to a party Saturday night which I have a sneaking suspicion that it will turn into a drunken brawl. It is fortunate that I'm going home to-morrow afternoon for the week-end. I've got a date with Lieut. Martinelli Sat. night. Whee! He is from California and came to Burlington in January. I suppose you've heard of the powder plant under construction in Burlington. Burlington is supposed to be the book spot of the nation. Gosh, how the poor old town will change.

I got a letter from Jo the other day, telling of the hysterical times they were having getting settled.

Write quick! and tell me everything which is going on.

lots of love
Sally
