Rev. Dr. William M. Nesbit
15 Frederick Street
Naugatuck, ConnecticutDear little Girl: So glad to receive the card and letter. You are so anxious to hear - I was certainly glad to hear you had company on the way home. Wouldn't that have been tragic if you had spent the 35 cents telephoning - and had sat with the group - and missed the soldier. I guess you will meet many soldiers from now on. It is rumored that there is such a shortage of men that the men who have dependents will be drafted - and the dependents will be granted an allowance from the Government - but that sounds kind of unlikely.
I have got to leave this letter for a minute. I think they have chlorined the water to-day. Probably forgot to do it this last Friday. It has been very cold here to-day. Only 2° this morning - but the bathroom was nice and warm!!! Papa put on the small storm window in the kitchen - but the house is very uncomfortable. All my dishes were washed etc etc. so I cleaned out the top drawer in the dining room - I will finish it to-morrow. I am going to do a drawer a day - so that things will be ship-shape before conference - begins. Papa is writing up his records - That is always a job - Papa went down to Epworth League - tonight but it was so cold in the church that the crowd had to go up to Mrs. Booth's house.
Papa just told me that they are going to have a black-out here in a few days - Ray Yarrison told him. It is not a secret. I found the big flash-light to-day - safe and sound so we will get some batteries for that one too. It is such a comfort to get things cleaned out - and fixed up. I am going to get or rather to make some things for the party - to-morrow. Nothing wonderful - but something - so that you will give your share. The collection looked rather slim on Sunday. The Bishop has ordered a collection to be taken up each Communion Sunday - for the sailors and "oversea relief". I always have liked the idea of a Communion Collection. It seems so appropriate. I probably will not send the eats until Thursday. Will not go to the Dentists until next Monday - as the "dimple" is still there.
Will close now - and Papa will post this letter before we go to bed. We all had such a lovely time and I am so thankful - it wasn't cold like this.
Love from the four.
