11.P.M.Dear little Girl:
Papa has just returned from a meeting of the Official Board. The going is very bad for it has been snowing - The Radio says that the snow will not amount to much. Papa came up - the long way round from the back - and he says it is much better. Have been busy fixing things - and have "the honor to report" as Pop says - that the Xmas tree is unmantled or rather dismantled and is out on the porch. So there will not be anything for you to do - when you come home again - I felt real homesick when I took the Xmas decorations down - We had enjoyed them so. Papa wound up each circuit by itself and we will put them up in the attic - to-morrow. It was much warmer to-day 13° when we arose - I guess the cold wave is gone.
Papa was in Waterbury to-day - and bought the stocking protectors. The girl had just put them back into stock. They are the right size M.6. Hope you received the box of garments O.K. I wrote to Gimbels and ordered Modess, tooth-paste, Shampoo and tissues - for your nosy-posy. They will be reaching you in a few days - I imagine.
Papa was just telling me that - a hit and run driver - bumped into his rear mud-guard to-night - on the way home from Church - and dented the mud-guard with such force that he broke his head-light. Papa got right out - and a man standing on the side-walk - told Papa the man had plenty of room - He and papa went back and looked and there were the broken pieces of the man's head-light - but the man had never stopped - just beat it. Papa was so mad that he had to take Bismarex when he got home. The man on the sidewalk was mad too. He thought it was a dirty trick.
Mrs. Birdsall has had a slight stroke. She had it on Sunday. on one side - but to-day she was able to move her fingers and her toes - but her daughter didn't say - whether she was able to speak yet. When you have time it would be nice to send her a card - When I am in New Haven - I will look again and send you some cheap but nice cards - so don't buy one to send Mrs. B. now.
I telephoned to Mrs. Hickcox and she had just arrived home from the South. She and Mr. Arthur had gone down for Xmas Day - then Mr. Arthur had left her there and driven home - and she stayed a week and came home by train. She said Jean had been well since her marriage - but this last week - had had a very bad ear and had to have the Doctor. She also said that Jean would be delighted with the cook-book. She had given Jean a copy of Mrs. Farmer's - but Jean said the amounts were too big and she didn't know - how to reduce them. Mrs. Arthur had never heard of "Cooking for two". and she was so pleased. She wished you a happy New Year. She said the weather - was warmer than it was here - but it was very unpleasant - cold and rainy.
I saw in the paper - that Howard Fassett had attended the Junior Womans' Club dance - with a girl named Olive - somebody - will send you the clipping - when I find it again - They are elusive.
Will close now - and retire. So glad to hear from you - I was waiting for letters and didn't have to wait long.
Lots and lots of love. Good-night.
Mamma.P.S. Am so glad the cretonne was a success. M.
