Dear Bessie:-
I surely have been a long time writing you but I just don't know where the time goes.
No doubt you were home for Thanksgiving. I hope you had a pleasant one. I went to my sister's in East Orange and we had a happy day. There were seven of us for dinner and more in the evening. It is always interesting to go there as the house is always the meeting place for plenty of young people and of course lots of fun. As I think of it perhaps you are celebrating this week.
My two weeks vacation the end of October ended all too quickly and mother surely did feel lonely when I came back. I expect her down next week Sat. or Sun to spend the winter with me. I know it must be lonely up there in the country alone and it is a lot of work to keep two fires going.
What have you been doing this year that is interesting? I'd like to hear how you are progressing in your junior year. It just doesn't seem possible you are so far along.
Ever since I came back from mothers I have been cleaning out neglected corners - putting up curtains and draperies and being generally useful.
Mr. & Mrs. Lane are still with me. Mr. L. hasn't been able to get anything to do as yet and he is becoming quite disturbed over it. I don't blame him, as it is nearly six months since he lost his last employment.
I am quite excited as I am going to a matinee Sat to see Ed Wynn. He is always very funny. On Friday last I went to a pageant given by the British Empire Circle in N.Y. at the Manhattan Centre. I never saw so many Scotch men dressed in Kilties in my life. Their pipe & drum Corps were marvelous. The men played & the girls danced. It surely was colorful as well as patriotic. There were about 5500 people there and I believe the proceeds were about $8000. Nice little sum. I guess they need it.
We are having a nice little snow storm for a change and it looks quite like winter. It was very cold here this A.M. I surely didn't enjoy getting out of my nice warm bed at 7 A.M. It is so dark in the mornings and at night. I'll be glad to see Dec 21st come so that the days will begin to lengthen.
I hope you have been well and are enjoying your work. I should like so much to be able to drop in & say "Hello!" but suppose I shall have to wait till summer.
Will close with
Love Aunt Emma
