Dear little Girl:
Just a line to say "Hello". I guess you rec'd the check O.K. and were able to see "Philadelphia Story". I was thinking of you to-day and wondering - whether you had the snow we had last night or rather evening. I was already to go to the Prayer Service - and the snow started - so I stayed home. It gathered rapidly - but is nearly all gone. I was afraid we might get stuck - and I didn't want to walk home. Papa made the grade O.K. came by the way of Hoadley St. One car was stuck but made it after awhile. There were some severe skidding accidents - due to slippery surfaces around Waterbury but luckily the snow didn't last. To-night is the Jr. Wesley business meeting - but Papa is going. I find that when I have to teach and sing a solo - coming home at 11-30 - Sat. night is not so hot. Went to the Ladies Aid on Thursday at Mrs. Donovan's house. She said Doris had put on her girdle that day for the first and the pain was severe. Do you remember how black & blue you were? I imagine it will take Doris some time - to get over it.
[Original was resized after scanning for viewing on the web]I am enclosing a picture of the fire. I am getting as bad as Aunt Lissa - with my clippings - but this is a very wonderful photograph. In New Haven - the clouds were so dark - the people thought it was a thunderstorm. They do not think it was sabotage. They think that maybe some little children who were playing around - set fire to the tires - although they "wonder" - how small children could set fire to rubber tires - as it is very difficult for anybody to set fire to them. Perhaps you can read between the lines. We haven't heard the inside report yet - just what is in the papers.
Papa went to call on the little boy or rather baby that had infantile paralysis - to-day - and the Doctors say - they think his legs will be normal. Isn't that wonderful. That new running water treatment must be wonderful.
It was so windy and cold here yesterday - but to-day it is very comfortable. I will close now and wake Papa up. He is taking a catnap. The service last night was very impressive - 3 minutes and about 60 people - or more. The choir turned out well. Papa was pleased.
I guess the news has all been told. Papa has come down for his supper - Hash and shoe-string carrots. He will probably have dessert at the Floyds. By the way, Bessie Beatty pronounces "Recipe" - receipt - and so does Lena on the Jake and Lena programme - "We three" are all about the same age - hence the pronounciation. [sic] I imagine Mrs. B. B. will be severely criticized - by her listeners.
Love from the Bunch
Mamma.P.S. Papa wants to know whether you have rec'd the check from the Bd of Educ. If not, Papa says you had better write to them and ask about it.
