Dear little Girl:-
It is a snowy, sleety day. I am sitting by the Radio - where it is warm and cozy. The walking is very bad and as Davis - has no
changchains for their brick - they can't deliver - so as our car is frozen - and is being thawed out - and we won't get it until Monday - I am getting the things from Wisman - I think they will deliver O.K. Just heard over the Radio - sugar is to be limited to prevent hoarding - as it was in the previous war. I wish we could buy a barrel and keep it in the store-room. Yesterday, Papa went to New Haven and attended a Church Meeting of Laymen and ministers - As his car was frozen, he went by Bus. You see he had alcohol for 10° and it went much lower in a sudden drop. A lot of cars were frozen - and they have to let them thaw gradually - One man used boiling water - and ruined his car to the cost of $150.00. Well, anyway, Papa went to New Haven. I bet you can't guess what he had for supper. Such a novelty - meat loaf, scallop potatoes, beets - apple-pie - for 60 cents. He said it was poor. Today - have been busy - fixing things etc. Andrewsia is sleeping on my left arm - she is getting sweeter - every day - I have quite a family of sparrows - outside the dining-room window - about 12. They are very tame - Couldn't get the picture we hoped to get. Everybody chose it - but we are going to try and get something on Monday. I am wondering how the weather is up - with you. I have some new cookie recipes - from Bessie Beatty's sister - and I think we can make some during Xmas Vacation. They sound good. Haven't any news - except war-news - Mr. Boynton's brother-in-law - was Governor of Guam - Mr Boyton [sic] was in Papa's department under Papa - for over 20 years - so we used to hear much about that Island. Will close now - time for the mail - Good-night.
Mamma.
