A Letter written on Oct 7, 1938

Betsey Darling;-

Your special delivery letter arrived last evening and certainly helped to make our One-and-Twentieth Anniversary a truly CELEBRASHUNOUS occasion. In the middle of the day we had been over to see Dr. Reed and he was very much pleased with things. Then we did some shopping in Waterbury. And then, just as we were about to sit down to "eats", came the gladsome message from our Wee Lassie. It surely was nice of Dr. Burgwin to put the matter across without waiting until he got the other blank. However of course you should return the blank, properly signed along with the note. The check should be endorsed "Pay to the order of Mount Holyoke College" -- and handed to the Comptroller -- to be credited towards the payment that is due on Oct. 15th.

Here is some more of the needful. [no longer with the letter]

Mama and I were "tickled pink" at the news on French, Physics, English and Volley Ball. εστιν αγαθον

We celebrated in proper fashion by holding hands and looking into oneanother's eyes (causa Anniversariae) and saying "hip--hip--hoorah for our Kid!" (causa epistulae).

With lotions of love-- THREE COLLEGIATE CHEERS--
Your doting Mama and
Pop.
