A Letter written on Mar 4, 1942

Dear little Girl:-

Just a line to say "Hello." Papa went to New York to-day and I did the chores. Papa went to Columbia and got a lot of information - both in the University and Teachers College - got catalogues etc. and learned that the Scholarship and Fellowship lists had been closed early in the season. Papa had a long talk with Secretary Fackenthal Sec. of the University - whom Papa knew well when they were both undergraduates and he thought that another year it could very likely be worked - seeing that Papa has three degrees from Columbia. That would be by enrolling in Columbia and electing the courses in Teachers College[.]

When you can spare a minute will you send a pretty card of sympathy - or write a note to Mary Brown. Mr. MacNamara died very suddenly last night. Mary phoned us that he ate his supper - fell over in the chair - Mary caught him - and he died in three minutes. She was some broken up. The Funeral is to be in Torrington - but she did not say where. I know she would appreciate a card from you[.]

Papa saw all the District Supts. to-day - and said he wanted to go - and they said - they would be looking out - for something. I expect I will receive a letter from you to-morrow - telling me - about whether you are coming home - and when Spring Vacation comes. The latch-string is always down, I don't have to write that do I, but on the other hand - "dates" are interesting[.] Sorry the boys were quarantined. Papa is enclosing check for three dollars [no longer with the letter] - all he could spare just now - he would so liked to have sent more -

Good-night - with big kiss
Mamma.
