A Letter written on Jan 10, 1941

Dear little girl:- Just received your two letters - and the dollar. Will write you about the presents for Mrs. Trafford - after I have bought them. Be sure they will be nice. The Radio says the weather will be clear to-morrow. The snow on the sidewalks is entirely gone. Have been sewing up my jersey dress. It was sewed with Jew thread on a single thread machine. It is O.K. now. Papa has just been to a Birth Control Meeting at Miss Whittemore's house. An Episcopal Clergyman spoke. Mr. Hause was going to be there - but evidently could nor make it - So Papa was the only man present besides the speaker. There were about 50 women present. I imagine most of them were there to see Miss Whittemore's house and partake of the refreshments. A maid served them. Papa had a brownie and a sandwich and tea. A Lady also spoke. She told about one married woman pregnant 28 times - and another who had 5 children in 3 yrs (not all full time children - of course). I signed one of the cards - they are trying to get 10,000 signatures. The Catholic Church is dead against Birth Control - and one of the Priests had a fierce fight with Mr. Taft of Taft School.

The game of substituting adjectives is new to me - must be lots of fun especially with a congenial crowd.

Papa bought brains yesterday - much to Brownie's delight - and Andrewsia's too so we are going to have them for supper to-night. We had them last night with Broccoli. I was glad you sent the dollar - as things are kind of close - so-to-speak.

Papa says to tell you he has the bill for the $4.00 and is sending the check to-night.

Have put up your calender in its usual place and it looks so pretty. Have been doings [sic] Pop's handkerchiefs - yours come next.

[switch from Mamma's handwriting to Pop's]

I am endeavoring to make up my mind what shall be the topic of my talk at the Stamp Club Dinner on Mon. evening. Perhaps "Stamps Produced by War" would be up-to-date. Good old Haile Selassie is back in the field again, chasing the Fascisti out of Ethiopia. My sympathies are certainly with him. Vivat Rex Regum! You know, I think that this last vacation certainly was a success, socially, glamorously, etc. etc.

Lotions of lotions.
