A Letter Written on Mar 5, 1941

Rev. Dr. William M. Nesbit

March 5, 1941.

Dear little Girl:- Before I forget it - Papa saw Mr. Williams to-day. and he says that Earl has been drafted - and Papa understood from Mr. W. that he is to go soon to Hartford to take his examination. If I were you - I would write him a little letter - and you will probably here [sic] all the particulars. I am also inclosing a card [no longer with the letter] - from Maurise, who is opening up for himself - and taking John with him. It is O.K - but you can't charge it - (the only disadvantage). I think John is the best hair-dresser you have ever had.

Went to New Haven to-day to the Dentist's. Dr Deveraux's wife is very sick - and Dr. D. is afraid it is cancer. I think that he is frightened and looking at it from the worst possible angle - but there is the religious difference again. She has a Catholic Doctor who treats Dr. D. as if he was an idiot - and if she has to go to a hospital - she won't go to a Protestant hospital - and they will have to have a catholic surgeon. He is as shut out from everything as if he wasn't married to her. I suppose this only happens in some families - but it happens often enough - to make one think. I suppose it makes a difference when the wife is very devout.

Rec'd your very welcome letter this A.M. and Papa and I had a good laugh - over the "Dramatic Scandal" I can imagine how the girls are enjoying it. Do you remember when we saw the Movie. I can see them now - on the balcony overlooking the street - in that hotel on the "border" -

We were glad to have the clipping about Dr. Kleffman. We had read all the news - in our papers - but nothing about Dr. K. In to-nights Paper No - it was on the Radio - it was reported that many of the people were fined, if they had been selling merchandise - that was not necessary.

It is almost a year ago (March 8) that we were hit in the ice storm. It is bitter cold here. We got our other 2 tons of coal yesterday. I certainly am proud of Papa - for winning that contest. We have kept so nice and warm - all winter.

Will close now - and hit the hay. I have been fixing up the Radio Room. Table - absolutely clear - all papers filed. Everything in order. Good-night

Love
Mamm[a]

PS. Think paper is lovely.
