Dear Jane:-

Your letter is, at last, on the top of my pile of answered letters. I've never had such a time trying to keep up my letterwriting. I just can't do it.

I've no need to tell you what a grand time I had at Lordship - met all the youths, Curtis included. Horace is grand, I do hope Ruby asks him to prom. Of course you know that Ruby, Muriel & I were invited up to Cricket's for a week - surprise for her. I expect the other girls are going but I can't on account of having accepted this Millerton invitation first. Too bad, I'd love to go!

On my way to Sheffield I stopped a day at Danbury where I lived in my infancy. I hadn't been there for 17 years so I had changed somewhat. Everyone I went to see called me "Tiny" - my baby nickname. I had a nice week in Sheffield too, my native town. You know I was with that aunt who married last fall. I had more than a circus watching her & her hubby - they were as bad as young kids with their foolishness & spats. While there we took a ride from Great Barrington to Pittsfield on the electrics through Lenox, Stockbridge, and all those swell Berkshire summer resorts. It was the loveliest ride of its kind that I've ever had with river & hills all the way.

"Uncle" Henry is town clerk, justice of peace & about 5 other such things so I had to swear & be witness, sign my name, etc. lots of times. I never swore so much in my life, the only part that troubled me was that I didn't know till after I had done it, why or at what I was swearing. We drove & fished and took walks, etc. Cards served to amust us most every evening.

As I have no need to tell you, any more than about Lordship, that I'm having a perfectly glorious time here. The only sad thing is that my particular favorite among the youths is away. He is not the only fish in the pond, however.

I haven't seen my bed a single night before midnight. Where will the 4 lbs. that I gained at Lordship go?

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that I went to Muriel's a couple of days before I went to Ruby's. I expect to be here till the 24th. Hope you are well & having as good a time as I am.

Hastily but with much love,
Lucy.
