A Letter Written on Mar 6, 1907

W. L. U.

My dear Jennie;

It was with some difficulty that I swallowed all of your compliments but I did it the best I know how. I agree with you that I look rather solemn but you must remember that I was conscious of the dignity? and solemnity? of the occasion? The white tassel is for my B.A. I only wish it were for an M.A. The different colored tassels show in which school we belong. The white is the Academic, yellow Engineering and purple is for the Law.

I wish you could have been here last night to attend the gym. exhibition. Howard and I did the wrestling stunt and neither of us were thrown so the pennant was given to both of us as we were somewhat related. Bus was very nice though and gave me his share of the pennant, on both, the grounds, that he won a medal on the parallel bars and due to the fact that I had always been throwing him before that night. The pennant certainly is a beauty, about ten feel long and width in proportion.

Just think of it exams begin one week from next Tuesday and the worst of it all is that I am not near ready for them. I am running on the good graces of the professors to put me through the last two terms.

Say I'm going to teach next year, don't you think I will lead some poor "kid" a hard life?

I don't know what has become of Ella. I wrote her a letter about the first of January and I have never heard a word from her. I suppose she is busy with other things?

Say Jennie I'm in need of something to inspire me to hard study and I would be most wonderfully pleased if you would furnish it to me. Don't you think you can?

Very sincerely
"Dick"

Wednesday night.
