A Letter Written on Jun 17, 1906

Chambersville, Va.
June 17th, 1906.

My dear Jennie:-

Please pardon me in being so remiss in answering your much appreciated letter. Jennie you do not know how much better I have felt since you wrote to me as you did, because I felt you were never favorably impressed with me. But you can't scare me now by rolling up your sleeves, clenching your fists, grinding your teeth and looking fierce at me. I believe you have a kind heart and tender sisterly feeling toward us both, and know you wish us many prosperous and happy years together.

Yes Jennie I feel like I am getting a good Christian girl and that I can not treat her too well. My aim in this world is to be to her a true and devoted husband, to make her life any thing but a burden, to her, so far as is within my power to do otherwise.

You must be very happy today as it is your first in Virginia for nine months, and long ones too. I did not like to let Ella come home yet, but decided to let her meet you as you have been away for so long.

It may be I will drift down your way soon and then can talk to a better advantage with you. Until then be good to your big sister and accept me as brother

Hugh.
