A Letter written on Feb 26, 1939

February 26, 1939

Dear Norm:

I certainly envy you your snow. Ever since I came back from Hanover we've had perfectly terrible weather - that is from the standpoint of winter sports. In fact, I've only had my toboggan out once this semester - - which burns me up, and with that perfect hill right in our back yard, too! Perhaps it's just as well that there is no snow, as the profs are seeing to it that we are never idle.

Incidentally, Holmes (Edith) we all call each other by our last names around here) is up your way this weekend. She went on an [sic] D.O.C. trip to Mooselauk. [sic] We all hoped she'd have good skiing snow, so I was real glad to learn from your letter that weather conditions were favorable in New Hampshire; - they certainly are pretty bad here. It's one of those days when it can't decide whether to rain or snow, so it just drizzels (?)! and freezes on.

I was sorry to hear of poor Eleazar's fate. He was really a work of art, and it seems a shame he had to be destroyed.

Well, Mary Lyon is calling me to duty, so I really must close. However, I do want you to know that I certainly don't think you are in the least crazy or even radical. Liberal, maybe, but your opinion is as good as anyone else's, and you have good reasons for what you believe. Not everybody has. I see your point, and I think you have good, logical reasons for believing as you do, but I, too, have definite reasons why I believe as I do, - (which, of course gets us nowhere) but I do have a much better understanding of your side of the question than I did before. Your ideas are more practical than mine - they are easier to work, I'll admit, - but I guess I'm either idealistic or just plain stubborn. On certain points, I do definitely agree with you, but on others I just can't.

Well, before we get too invalued here, I'd better sign off. Incidentally, I'd love to have some of the Carnival pictures. (I was hoping maybe you'd offer to send me some.) We had such fun, and it would make it so much nicer to have the pictures, too. Well, do write and tell me all the news.

Sincerely,
Polly
